Requirements
  • Education: Master's Degree in business, healthcare administration, nursing, or related field required.
  • Experience: 7 years of experience in a senior level management role with specific experience in ancillary and/or clinical services.
Responsibilities
  • Working as part of the Health System Planning team to evaluate market opportunities and develop strategies for growing targeted and prioritized Cardiovascular Services (including Heart/Lung and Vascular Services) in order to stay coordinated with the overall Clinical Health System vision and goals.
  • Working with Vice President, CEO University Hospitals, to develop measurable and actionable plans, execute the "go to market" strategies to meet the Health System goals, and establish operational procedures that expand access, increase productivity, reduce costs and maintain the highest quality of clinical standards.
  • Working in a dyad partnership with the Executive Clinical Director of the Cardiovascular Service Line responsible for strategic growth, operational excellence, financial performance, care model innovation and market differentiation across the cardiovascular continuum.
  • Responsible for facilitating alignment among clinical departments and divisions (Cardiovascular Surgery, Cardiology, Vascular Medicine, etc.) to serve patients by disease.
  • Working with partners in the departments, hospitals, ambulatory and medical group teams, the AVP ensures alignment across hospitals, ambulatory sites, research and education while advancing UTSW's mission of clinical excellence, academic distinction and value-based care.
  • Working with Clinical Marketing and Physician Outreach to develop and implement targeted marketing campaigns to strengthen our brand and relationships in the community.
  • Plan Development (in coordination with Health System Planning): Identify market and customer requirements for the Service Line. Develop Service Line specific strategic and marketing development.
  • Develop actionable tactical work plans to grow selected Health System clinical service lines. Develops quantifiable metrics to measuring progress/success. Sets the direction for the service lines with defined measurements and provides frameworks for staff to meet goals.
  • Reviews, modifies and updates plans as necessary on a quarterly basis.
  • Plan Execution: Ability to move Clinical Service Line growth plans to the level of execution. Organizes service line in a cost efficient and effective manner & achieves performance excellence. Sets performance standards for staff and develops working environment and avenues for education and training to meet those standards.
  • Ensure all regulatory and compliance issues are in compliance. Assist in cost consolidation, product standardization and supply chain initiatives.
  • Operational and Quality Improvement: Develop and oversee coordinated operational programs and processes for each service line which result in high quality and service patient care. Identifies customer needs, develops and implements services and processes to meet those needs. Work collaboratively with the University Hospital Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Medical Officer to ensure consistent quality of clinical care throughout the system.
  • Partners with the Hospital Chief Financial Officer to oversee the service line financial performance, including operating margin, revenue growth, expense management and capital planning. Develop and monitor pro forma analyses for new initiatives. Partner with finance to ensure accurate service line reporting, forecasting and productivity tracking. Drive improvement in payer mix, case mix index, length of stay, throughput and procedural efficiency. Support value based care readiness and bundled payment strategies.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership to improve quality metrics, clinical outcomes and patient experience. Monitor key cardiovascular quality benchmarks (e.g., STS, NCDR, CMS, Vizient measures). Advance performance in publicly reported quality programs for best outcomes for our patients. Ensure regulatory compliance and readiness for accreditation surveys.
  • Lead implementation of innovative care models across the cardiovascular continuum. Improve care coordination across inpatient, ambulatory, imaging and procedural settings. Work with the clinical teams to standardize best practices and reduce clinical variation where appropriate. Partner with nursing and operational leaders to optimize patient flow, capacity and access. Support digital health initiatives, remote monitoring and population health strategies.
  • Achieves continuous systematic, financial, patient focused, measurable improvement in the service line and organization. Maintains primary responsibility along with the Medical Director for the service line and organization. Administers, directs and coordinates the activities of the service line. Develops internal policies and procedures. Approves methods and procedures recommended by subordinate supervisors in consultation with the physician directors.
